Half frame Pentax?

Interesting, there's no reason why a specialist run of a Pentax body with half frame could not have been ordered by someone with a specific purpose in mind.
Unfortunately the writer of the piece was not very knowledgable, so it makes me wonder whether it could have been an Alpa half frame variant with a Pentax lens. Pentax lenses were made for Alpa and Alpa certainly did half frame versions of their cameras.

That's interesting John, when the date of the article is taken into consideration I wonder if that was the case.
The fact that the writer called it an 'MF' was what caught my eye, that and the 'M' series was, by this time, a very old range got me wondering.
Has anybody else heard or seen anything?

Imagine the 35mm frame split into two to make two vertical format frames of 18x24mm and you have half frame. You therefore get 72 shots on a 36 exposure film.
The advantage is economy and if the SLR is designed as half frame a smaller camera. A full frame SLR was sometimes modified but then it remains as bulky.
The disadvantage is that quality suffers as the film quality remains constant but the need for enlargement increases. Also 72 shots was too many for most people - it took forever to use up a film and the processing cost more rather than less.
Olpmpus made a range of half frame Pen cameras, both compacts and SLRs. The SLRs used a mirror system instead of a pentaprism and were therefore very compact indeed.

This is an MF, a variant on the ME but not the MF we all know. The MF1 was the full frame version.

The body was used on Pentax Fibrescopes for industrial and medical medical purposes. We used one for Gastro-enterology research.
The viewfinder only showed a cropped area of the end of the fibre optic bundle. The PA-M55 relay lens acted as a macro lens to bring the fibre bundle into focus. The metering system only covered this area to maintain correct exposure. An aerial image maintained a bright viewing image as a matte focusing screen was too dark. A mofied version of the MX was also used with a modified aerial focussing screen.
Cheers Pierre

Enlighten me gartmore, I had never heard of the 'MF', let alone the 'MF1' until I found the reference on the page I posted.
Does the MF exist as a model, or was it a prototype that never went into production, and are there any images of it? :

There are many listed under 'Links', in the 'News' menu option at the top of the page.

I'm sure the PU team would add any others you might have.
