Putting it next to a 110 is cheating John.
Iy looks like it came of an old plate camera, so focal length could be around 35mm( equivalent).

Canon 400mm L IS ?
I think im correct as you can still see areas where the white paint hasnt entirely come off.

I was looking at a cinema projector down at the auctions a couple of weeks back and that had a similar-looking lens stuck on the front - so that's my guess.
I think it may be a tad big for my bellows unfortunately...

Oggy, you have the kudos of a correct answer, although I can't confirm the Spitfire bit. It is indeed an Aero lens from a wartime reconnaissance camera.
