Grey Heron Fight

Sitting looking out at a adull, grey and wet day yesterday, I got really fed-up so I grabbed my K3ii and drove down to the local fishing pond. It stayed dry for the first 20 minutes then it started to drizzle.
At first, it seemed as though there was nothing to be seen, but then I spotted a kerfuffle on the other side of the pond. Luckily, the camera had my longest zoom lens and was shocked to see two herons having a ding-dong battle behind one of the fishing platforms (or ‘pegs’ as they are properly called).
They were grabbing each other by the neck, locking beaks, bashing each other to the ground and generally having a real go, at one point, one had the other pinned to the ground by standing on its neck! - now that's fighting dirty imho. I took some long-range shots and then decided to rush (yeah, right ) around the pond to get closer.
One of them saw me coming and took off across the pond, the other one slowly started walking along the path until it came to the dead-end. It stood there and let me take some shots and it allowed me to get within two metres and Inotice the blood on its beak. I didn’t want to scare it so I backed off and left it alone.
These are some of the photos:
The first two are at max zoom and cropped very heavily.

Thanks, it was worth getting soaked for (don't you just hate that very fine drizzle that gets through everything )
