After talking about doing it for years. I think i'm finally an amateur photographer! All be it, one that knows nothing about photography!

Purchased a Kx with the two lens package about a week ago as Pentax sounds so much classier than Nikon or Cannon.

Already I want more lenses.

cheers

Welcome friend, I see you have that common complaint, "upgradeitus" (an overwhelming urge to buy more gear)

Thanks for the welcome.

Just spent the last 3hours looking at the Gallery section, one day i'll be good enough (and brave enough)to upload images.

As a complete novice, would any of you reccomend any issential kit I should be buying for my Kx? I'm thinking protection, care etc.

cheers

Spare battery/extra memory card/lens brush/shoulder bag or pack.

And a further word on batteries is in order, given you have a Kx (as I do).

Some research about 'which AA batteries', and 'which charger' will reward you.

The Kx is notoriously fussy with batteries. Timer-based chargers fry those batteries that are rechargeable, so you need to look for an intelligent charger, and something like 'Eneloop'-type batteries. Unless you're looking to shell out a lazy 20 everytime you change 4 Lithiums (they might last you 700 / 800 shots, depending on your use of flash)...

Taking the image is part of the fun - getting to grips with the software so you can process your images to good effect will be the other side of the same coin. More fun!

Enjoy, don't hesitate in searching this forum to enhance your understanding, and failing an answer there, post a new question.

Looking forward to your pics.

Hello and welcome.
I've just bought some Powerex 2700ma/H rechargeable batteries off the net, and so far they are great. Sony 2500ma/H batteries are good too.

You need to be aware that proper cameras expect you to do some tweaking to the image before it can be considered finished.

Everybody has their favourite software, and no doubt will sing its praises. But any software will do the basics, and these are:

1 Crop the picture.
2 Correct the exposure.
3 Correct the colour balance (especially for indoor shots).
4 Adjust the contrast.
5 Sharpen the image.

Not all are necessary every time, but all should be checked. And it can all be done in the software supplied by Pentax.

Good luck.

Welcome aboard, you've certainly come to the right place for help and encouragement. From reading the previous posts, I'd say you have been given excellent advice to begin.Get used to your camera, discover all it's settings and functions, then practice, practice, practice. Take many shots and study the effects of various settings. Be sure to read as many varying posts and threads on PU as possible and when ready post some of your own shots. Don't worry about asking questions. Someone here will be more than happy to assist.
Best of luck,

Stephen

Welcome to the forum. There's always all sorts of lenses in the classifieds section to help feed your apparently already developing LBA...............
