green Lacewing Larva Hatch

Found an adult few days back & put her (as it turned out!) in clear plastic pot for later inspection.
On next looking, there were eggs, on stalks!
Kept an eye on them & there were subtle changes in the eggs' appearance, sort of stripey.....

Then, hatching began!
No chance of stacking, activity much too frantic to escape the egg cases.

....& for scale, a shot of a scale rule sowing a little over 2 mm., at the same scale as the images.

Fascinating. That first picture is definitely an alien life form... Come to think of it, the others could be a creature from deep space arriving on a wandering space rock .

And what a photographic challenge! Would you have done anything differently if you had known beforehand how quickly things would happen?

........the only thing I can think of to enable a short stack, would be to have kept the eggs in the fridge whilst waiting for the hatch to start, in some attempt to slow things down a bit.....
I'm not sure of that, though!

And I thought ladybird egg hatchings were frantic! These things rival their adult form for ferocity looking at those grabby thingies on their heads. I've seen the eggs before but never in such exquisite detail as this one. That will be an image to treasure I would think?
