Green button

I have just traded in my Olympus e520 for the K-x with the dual lense kit at a very good price and am about to embark on a rejuvenated bout of snapping.
One thing I have noticed very quickly - due to a number of spoilt shots either over or under exposed is that the K-x retains your last settings after switching off and back on for use. I can not remember this happening on my oli so what I would like to know is....can the green button be programmed to re-set any changes made to the settings of the camera and put it back to default? in one easy push!
I have tried to read the instruction manual that came with the camera but due to it being a tad small and thick - I am struggling and I am trying to remember to check all settings when I switch it on.

I think the green button practically does that by default anyway...

On my K5 (and previous pentax) I press menu and then move to menu 5 and there is a sub-menu called 'memory'. If you enter this you can select what the camera remembers when it is switched off. I normally have mine set to reset most things, but retains drive mode, playback info and file no.

I would think it should the same or similar on the K-x.

No probs. Nothing worst than going out on a shoot and not realising you've left the camera in the wrong mode for 50% of your shoot... lol.

I like my camera to remember most of the time. It is just I forget sometimes if I am doing something fast. It is great how much customisation is available on Pentax cameras.

Drives me nuts though when I have to take my wife's camera as a second body as some settings are different. Have slowly been converting her over to my settings

I know what you're talking about as the K-5 is the first DSLR I have actually owned so I was quite accustomed to using other people's cameras before that (my wife's and also my dad's which I had on a long-term loan for a while).

The solution would for cameras to allow user profiles - not just the 'user modes' available on the K-5 but essentially logging into the camera as whole different user with your own complete setup, much like you can do on a PC running any modern OS. This would not be difficult for camera manufacturers to implement in the camera firmware, but as far as I'm aware nobody's actually done it.

I also wish you could save/load User Modes to the card. that way you could load up a set of the most appropriate 5 before a shoot.

Nice idea to be able to handle multiple users that way too. I put my card in, the camera loads my settings. My wife puts hers in, camera loads her settings.

Hmmm, I must bear this in mind when designing my ultimate-camera-which-makes-the-kitchen-sink-obsolete.

I wish User mode remembered every setting! I was trying to set it up so that the K5 would keep the rear LCD turned off when in User mode 1 (my TAv high ISO street shooting hip shot mode) but that seems to be one setting it won't remember.

I did this not long ago, I had the KX set to exposure bracketing without realising...resulted in lot's of swans with varying levels of exposure, wasn't impressed.

Oh and OP, k-x is a brilliant bit of kit, enjoy it!

That logging on idea is superb, I wonder if anyone from Pentax trawls forums like this to pick up great suggestions from its users.
You could set the camera for different modes and name them as "users" or the like and when you were out on the shoot you could just log in as "whatever" and snap away.
They would probabaly put the case that they have already done that in the modes pre-programmed into the camera but I still like this concept.

Heh my old Olympus c5060 had multiple customisable user modes... funny how some really good ideas seem to have passed DSLR manufacturers by.
