Welcome to the site! I agree, Pentax users usually are a more mature and friendlier bunch (based from my experience) hence why I decided to join the K-mount brigade. Looking forward to your photos!

Hi there
I've just bought the K-r kit (+ a second user Pentax 55-300 lens)as a first DSLR and have signed up with the OU for their basic level course to get me started. From hundreds of students doing that course very few seem to have a Pentax, so I'm sure I will be coming back here to ask for advice. I'm a total novice, so I'm pleased to hear you're a friendly bunch. Hopefully you'll steer me in the right direction when I ask ridiculous questions and make total gaffs, as I am bound to do

Hello to you both.
I agree what Opethian says - Pentax users are much more mature, helpful and interested in photography than others (with the possible exception of Oly users). Have fun and post some snaps when u can

Welcome to the forum John.
I think you'll find that Pentax users are more friendly because of our lesser numbers, lets face it if you own a rare car your more likely to flash your headlights when you see someone else driving the same, your not going to do it if you drive a Mondeo

These responses confirm my initial thoughts. When my work colleagues talk incessantly about Facebook I shall tell them I am a member of a far more exclusive web community!

Ah, you are right there, japers!
I've been a member here for ages......well, 4 months, anyway. It's a great place, and you will learn a lot. Enter the comps and you'll get really great feedback.

I cant seem to see a forum for other brands as friendy and useful as this.
Some consolation as my K5 (first ever DSLR) is away with sensor staining currently (I will admit momentarily thinking I may have been better off with a D7000)and I find myself a bit lost without it.
I love being out and about with my camera- I have been to The Lakes, Liverpool, South Coast and recently Rome with it and am completely hooked. I will read anything about photography now.
I think the forum is an excellent example of how the internet can be an incredible tool for bringing like minds together (and lets face it there are some obvious examples where this is not always the case).
Thanks for all the knowledge gleaned thus far.
