Graphic Tablet

Hi All

I'm thinking of getting a Graphics Tablet to use with Photoshop.
Any sugestions, and are they any good .
I've Seen the Wacom ones but Argos are also doing one by Trust.

I use a wacom graphire 4
you can pick up refurbished graphire 3/4 on wacoms website
they are no different than newer versions (except those are more "stylish" and maybe slightly more sensitive - check it out though, i doubt it)

I got a Wacom Bamboo for Christmas. Just the very basic version of it, nothing fancy. (Didn't want the OH spending a fortune on something I may not like). I am really pleased with it - my mouse is (nearly) redundant now, I use it for just about everything, not just PS.

Yeahhh, they only have XL in used stock on the website now.
personally the smaller sizes are better
in the graphire at least, the volito is very small

I use mine for everything too.
Well, if it messes up (and acts like a mouse rather than a tablet, so you have to drag the pen constantly, specially bad on a large res) i have my mouse as standby. It only requires a restart to fix it, but I dunno why it happens =/

Looks like the Wacom Bamboo tablet is the favourite. It's nice to know that they sell used ones on there web site. Still curious to know if anyone has experienced the Trust model from Argos.

I can also give a vote for the basic bamboo which I also got for Christmas. What I read before deciding on it was that for most tasks, except perhaps for CAD then a small tablet is actually better than a large one as you don't have to move your hand very much - imagine the difference between writing notes on a small pad of paper compared to an A3 sheet. If you need to do fine detail - in Photoshop for example - it is easier to zoom in to the area that you want to edit - the area of the pad equating to the area on your screen.

I have just borrowed one to try it, and it is a wacom intuos 3, A4 size. It is very sensitive, and although I like using it, find it is a bit big and think I would prefer the smaller size, makes my arm ache with so much movement!

I would definitely go with the Wacom ones Driver support is excellent, and the modern drivers still support every Wacom tablet ever made

I have a serial Graphire 1, a USB Graphire 1, and a Graphire 2 - all superb devices. Use the Volito on the kid's PC, and use Wacom technology in the Tosh tablet PC. Cannot recommend Wacom highly enough

I have also used the pro stuff - really nice with heavier stylus that has angle sense too (so you can change the angle of the brush in Photoshop). But, for day to day stuff, you can't beat the Graphire and Bamboo series

Last month I got the Wacom Intuos 3 A5 size and I am very happy with it, I have not had any probs at all setting it up , size is just perfect for me, no regrets spending the extra notes, see this link also:

I went with the latest intuos tablet. I like it, but to be honest, when I started out with the graphire sreies, I wasn't experianced with tablets, and so wouldn't have noticed the differences between the intuos and graphire series. but now that I have an intuos (the bamboo is basically a restyle of the graphire with a few extra buttons and a touchpad) I can tell the pen is twice as sensitive, esp with larger screens.

So the bamboo is a great choice if you are starting out, but the intuos is worth a little more... if you get either you'll be happy.
