got given a pentax k110d with no usual maual or anything, getting incredibly annoyed with it since i've tried 4 different memory cards and 2 of them did nothing, the other 2 take photos okay, so i went to a gig took some, or thought i did, and the piece of crap stored about 10 photos. That's all. So I went home and tried the other card, same thing. It won't store photos. The memory cards are both 2gb, getting so fed up! all i want to do is start taking photos! i've tried the memory cards in my other camera, they are fine. it's just the pentax, what should i do?

Follow this link, navigate down the page, and you'll find a link to download a manual for the K110D.

That said, a 2GB card should be SD and work ok in the camera.

Try putting a 2GB card in the camera and formatting it, then try again. The instructions for formatting a card are in the manual.

If that doesn't work, reset the camera to factory default settings. Could be the previous owner has set it up wrong.

And the manual is at:

www.pentax.co.uk/media/90caecfc3cfb97547a72a395301d387c/K110D_web.pdf

and http://www.pentax.co.uk/en/Photo-Downloads.html has links to all of the available downloads including the firmware already suggested.

To expand on Mike-P's comment. The base K110D firmware would only support SD cards and reading the spec it may have been limited to just 1GB max. Firmware 1.02 allows te use of SDHC cards which start at 4GB and probably removed any earlier limits.

To upgrade the firmware you will need a small SD card - 8MB or greater, but avoid the 2GB ones you have.

In the back of my mind something tells me I have seen this problem before and there is a 1GB limit. The manual - have just checked it, has a table of Capacity against number of images at each quality level and they only show: 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB.

@ opat: just to make it clear, that 1 GB limit does not apply to SDHC cards (although there is a limit, not sure which). I'm happily using 4GB ones in my K100D.
