Good excuses

Having recently returned to photography with the purchase last year of a DS I find myself in the difficult but somehow familiar situation of trying to explain to my long suffering wife why spending around 800 quid in recent weeks is a good thing.
I see that I am not alone with this problem . .
I gather that some of the forum regulars have partners who are also photographers . .
which I guess can be an advantage as at least there is some comprehension as to why it might be necessary to get 'another' lens (but you already have 2/3/4/5 delete as appropriate)

I'd be particularly interested to know what story Peter has come up with to justify the (possible) purchase of a istD and a D FA 100 macro, especially as to date no one has replies to your post, or maybe your dearly beloved doesn't know yet

So, what works and what doesn't? Flowers. chocolates, jewlery ??? I've found that if the first word I say after spending some time on the internet is 'Darling' then a certain resigned look comes over my wifes face - but I can't help myself.

Any advice greatly appreciated before I end up having to sleep on the verandah with the dog. Must be off to work - have a good week one and all - you have a lot to answer for!

Have so much Pentax kit that anything new isn't even noticed!

I took the most expensive option and bought a house in Spain. My wife spends most of her time out there for health reasons, I spend most of my time in UK. I'll have to come clean sooner or later though.

Women can be practical. If I ask for a new motorcycle, she'd hurt herself laughing...but if I ask her for a $24,000 bmw motorcycle, she knows that even my dillusional, twisted little brain can do the math...so I hum and hah about how slow my yamaha fj1200 was and how It's reflexes aren't as fast as mine...about how I'm getting older and want a new bike while I'm young enough to enjoy it....she starts talking about upping my life insurance...and all of a sudden a Ninja zx12 starts to look affordable to both us....

I'm lucky in that as I'm now divorced and live with just my 2 (grown up?) lads, I can get away with spending (or borrowing !) whatever I want to add to my Pentax gear and have jolly well done so recently!

Curently after a 200mm f4 FA* macro, but they are so hard to find.

I also rarely take holidays, just mainly days out, and no longer drink or go out to pubs etc...which saves me money that I prefer to spend on photography, as I find it so much more rewarding than a hangover!
If I could just give up the ciggies I'd be sorted.

I managed to redeem myself slightly yesterday as I sold my 1 yr old DS + DA 18-55 + FA J 75 - 300 for 500 quid to someone here in Yaounde. I didn't think this too bad considering Park cameras are offering a new DL + 18-55 for GBP440. This sale offset the purchase of a similar age D + 18-35 + 28-90 which I bought because I want to have the option of wireless flash. I just have to go a bit easy for a while and try not to browse ebay for more 'bargains'. The only frustration is that I'm now camera less until I get back to the UK in 5 weeks time.
