Glass Heart

Taken with my Pentax-A 50mm f1.7, on the dining room table just light by the normal light. The heart in on the side farthest away and that surface is not parallel to the front.

Do you want it honest and brutal?

It seems competently done as regards exposure and Depth of Field but the composition/setting is not as good as it could be.

You need to work on the backgrounds for this sort of shot, that black fruit bowl(?) is totally distracting and adds nothing to the image plus you have bright highlights in the top left corner from a window or door.

One could argue that the intention of the image is to show the way the glass heart defracts the light and creates the illusion of the fruit bowl dissapearing behind it, but the fact remains the background is still very distracting.

Try getting hold of a piece of black velvet to use as a base and backcloth and lighting the heart from various angles.

PS: if you can get hold of REAL velvet as its supposed to absorb all light and not give off reflections, (i've managed with a man made velvet dress from the wifes wardrobe though)

The black "fruit bowl" is in fact two candle holders, I tried to show that these were not visible through the glass. You are correct the light in the top left is a glass door, that reflects the light back.

I am trying to get the manual focusing correct, so now having got used to that, will now try to sort out the background.

Now that you've pointed out they are two seperate objects I can see it, I thought the angle looked a bit odd

Stick at it with the glass, its fantastic stuff to play with.
