This statue is right next to where I go for coffee most days. They were inspired by Paulyrichard's latest series, although not a patch on his excellent images.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Number one seems a bit detached to me, Kris, rather uninvolving with everyone turning away from the centre although the path does provide strong lead-in lines;

but the second one...

One of the best street shots we've seen recently and a super contrasty conversion. The light is excellent and the couple really make the whole thing work. Ghandi was all about love and humanity so... Stock libraries would love this shot for all the right reasons but it deserves more than to be used for advertising! In my opnion.

One might clone out the people in the background which would be time consuming but not impossible but then the image may be too pristine!

Regards,

Andrew

Thank you both. I wasn't convinced by the first one either.

Best wishes, Kris.

The second one for me, it tells quite a story and feels quite intimate, were in the first image everyone is ignoring you, including Gandhi, giving the viewer a feeling of exclusion.

Whic lens did you use, Kris. Looks like a medium telephoto with a hint of compression.

Well spotted Andrew! It was the SMC-M 100mm f/2.8.

Just for comparison, here is the statue close up. This photo was taken last year using a Pentax MX, SMC-M 40mm f/2.8 "pancake" lens and Ilford Delta 100 Professional film.

I don't know whether to impressed by the way the K20's sensor has rendered the complex tones in such a beautiful way that it matches a top class, fine grain film, or to admire the way that carefully exposed celluloid and silver halide and an iconic lens can still give modern technology a run for its money.

Blimey, that's what I call a sentence: Bernard Levin would have been proud of me!

Regards,

Andrew

By the way, the photo has a completely different feel: calm and contemplative. Nice.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I must admit that having played around with XP2 Super and Tri-X 400, going back to Delta 100 is very pleasant. I shall have my darkslides loaded with Delta 100 when I go to Durham and will be very interested to see what 5x4 negs of the stuff can do.

Best wishes, Kris.

Kris, you work in London? I thought you was a farmer!?

This statue of Ghandi is a great piece of sculpture. I can see that people are a problem here Kris, and it looks like a challenge in photographing this guy.

A lecturer in Archaeology? Now that is something to be, for sure. Impressive.
