I agree. I do not see any problem with the picture. The sharpness is also the perfect. though I do not have much experience in this but still I can say that the picture looks fine.

If I recall correctly, David, the insults started in a PM you sent to me a while ago, in which you criticised my pictures, and implored me not to comment on yours.

You have explained why you posted in the Gallery, but I am afraid I didn't find your explanation very convincing.

Now, I am quite happy to discontinue this dialogue, and I hope you have a pleasant evening!

I too am quite happy to discontinue the dialogue, the only problem with this is that you keep resurrecting it! This time it's via a post on the 'Tired, Hackneyed and Cliched' forum topic. I don't have any problem with you airing your opinions on any topic, but what I do object to is the personal nature of what you have posted about me. The PM I sent you is what is hinted at in the initials; it is a 'Private Message', not a public airing. As you well know it was prompted by you and your incessant personal jibes.

I am a little surprised the moderators don't remove you from the site, but I'm not going to ask for this as you do make me smile, as I'm sure you make others smile too. I know that some prominent members have taken long sabbaticals from the site because of issues with forum posts the like of which you are famous for, but this will not be the result with me. I will continue to post my pictures (probably more so now you have encouraged me) and I will continue to respect the comments that the members with common sense make upon them, including those from Somerset.

David, I haven't resurrected anything; my post to you in the other thread was made at 16:20, the one here was made at 18:52.

For the record, your PM was prompted by my suggesting you refrain from offering erroneous legal advice. Prior to that you had told somebody that a third-rate lens was "excellent", and I felt obliged to correct that statement. Not exactly "incessant personal jibes".

I note that you have decided to post even more pictures to the Gallery because of this disagreement. It seems a poor reason.

Incidentally, I haven't met your mate, Puma, but from what I have seen he appears to be a very nice chap. I am therefore sure that you are too, when not waging war on the internet.

I also think your photography has improved considerably, and my comments on your two pictures were entirely sincere.

Maybe it's time we stopped this George. You are right about Shaun, (Puma); he is a very nice chap but he is also one of our valuable members who has taken his fair share of flak and has often considered leaving the site because of it. There are many members on here who have met me and who I would count as friends and I'm not in the habit of falling out with people or waging war in any way. I do defend myself though and maybe some of my words have not been as considered as they could have been.

Thank you for your observation on my improvement, it's nice to know I'm not going backwards.

I also think you made a fair point about the lack of images I post on the 'My Photos' section. The truth is I don't belong to any image hosting websites and this is the simple reason my images appear on the Gallery and not very often on the Forum. There's nothing more to it than that. I know it's easy to join a photo hosting site, but I haven't done so yet.

You don't need to join a photo hosting site, David.

You can upload your photos directly to the forum from your computer, the same as you do in the gallery.

First time I have heard of that. Has there been a change? As somebody else pointed out, I too have occasionally posted a pic to the gallery because there was no way to upload directly.

Well Gentlemen, perhaps a PM is the best place to continue your discussion, but in any case it's getting a bit off topic in this discussion.

I would not discourage anybody from posting pictures, but equally I do think that sometimes the superlatives dished out are a bit over-enthusiastic.

Usually I don't comment at all unless I see something that I really am impressed by and feel unable to contain my enthusiasm. And I do have a real enthusiasm for images. When I judge competitions I thoroughly enjoy the process of seeing and evaluating all those images and I'm well aware that the creators have invested in them a bit of themselves. Therefore, they have a real value, good or bad.

Sometimes I will be encouraging with a poor image because I can see someone has struggled to improve, so I try to find that spark and identify the strengths. However, this is not mindless positivism, and when I see poor images being praised highly I find that a shame. It's a shame because it might hinder a photographers progress as they remain unaware of the faults within their images.

I think the comments being made on my model shoot photos of Melissa and Melissa are fantastic becsaue some people are saying exactly what they think without any holding back. Excellent, but not everyone can take that, especially beginners.

But this thread is about the technical quality of uploads, so perhaps we can move the other discussion elsewhere?

George, just try and upload a picture and you'll see the new system. It's brilliant and very welcome.

What a great new feature, sorry I missed it. I think the old system was just a bit of a pain compared to uploading to the Gallery. Hopefully those who have been wanting CC, will use it rather than simply gauging the success of a shot from the number of views and 'comments' gained. It's clear there is the experience, talent, opinion and generosity on the site to make it far more worth while to those wishing more valuable feedback. Though to take off it will certainly need a bit of a culture shift...

With the site at heart (which I believe is George's motivation) perhaps on the Gallery upload screen it should say the Gallery is 'for your best images', like a few other sites on the web.

A couple of points if I may. Firstly, I use either Chrome or Firefox as my browser and see no difference in image quality between the two browsers, only between those viewed on my desktop and on my laptop, which seem to be down to the quality of the screen and the detailed settings.

Secondly, I am confused by the apparent reference to different galleries. When I log on the only options that I see are those to upload to the "main gallery" or to the weekly competition (I am a standard used not a User Plus) - am I missing something?

Thirdly, as a relative beginner I find some of the debate on "quality" depressing and highly discouraging. I put up occasional images, which would probably be described as utter C***, by some of the "uber-talented"; but I put them up because a) I want some (hopefully constructive) criticism, as that is my main hope of improving, and b) I like them. Without criticism, I, and people like me, will merely continue to make the same mistakes as I undoubtedly make now and as a result, in the opinion of some, never be qualified to put up any pictures. Thankfully, some members have been kind enough to say nice things about a few of the images I have posted, which I have found very positive and encouraging.
