I can't see a 135-format body selling for less than £1,500.

And I would presume anyone spending that sort of money would go with either Nikon or Canon because they know for certain they are not going to (as Shakey puts it) go the way of the Dodo.
The main reason that I see people jumping ship from Pentax is the range of lenses (I am unlikely to ever hit that barrier) and anyone spending that amount on a camera would want a complete range available I would have thought.

look, cell phones and low end video cams will gut the market for pocketable, low to mid range cameras. consumer video cams will gut the market for mid to high end pocket cameras.

Pentax had better have a sizable chunk of "PRO" slr market, if they're going to survive.

And Wedding pros like me need high quality stills and video capabilities.

samsung is in a better position than Pentax to produce the next big thing.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

To be honest as long as I have somewhere with a K mount to put my lenses, it doesn't matter to me if it's Pentax or Samsung on the camera.

Unlocker,

I have neither the time or inclination to get into a tedious sentence by sentence bun fight with you over this.

Therefore I am happy to leave you the last word:

Insane it most definately is, but one hell of an advertising campaign!

They've done loads! In the latest one the CEO gets in the queue for an iPhone 3G, gets his hands on what is possibly the hottest gadget of the moment, thens pops it in a blender and asks the question 'but, will it blend!'

Absolutely priceless!

Interesting thread.

Although the FF pro market is very small there is one very small point everyone seems to have missed.

Most amateur photgraphers want to emulate the professionals, not neccesarily pentaxians.

The majority of professionals use N & C brands, these are constantly seen on television & magazines when celebs are being papped etc... This is worth more in free advertising & creating brand awareness than the profit from a FF camera could ever possibly be worth. If Pentax & Samsung start to appeal to the pros then the wannabees will surely follow, like the sheeple tend to do.

I think that Pentax should take the case straight to the grass roots and start to offer serious speakers to the camera club circuit. Years ago companies like Ilford and Kodak and many others had lecturers and postal lectures available. In the ADAPS archive we still have a good selection of film-strip lectures from these sort of sources.

If someone did talks to clubs, Pentax orientated and taking along some exciting kit to show then over time there would be I'm sure a definite benefit.

In our club there are actually quite a lot of Pentax/Samsung users, probably more than average as Pentax have at least had a fair hearing (I wonder who from) and the members spend a huge amount of money each year on kit. This could definitely be tapped into.

Chris from SRS has twigged to that here, although he hasn't yet realised how much the members at ADAPS spend.
Best regards, John
