Who knows?!

They may have one in the works, then again they may not.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Samsung had built/designed one, so it might be that they use that.

Or, maybe they could 'buy in' a Sony designed/built sensor similar to how Nikon have done with previous cameras, and arguably, the new D3x...

I'm not sure it's a priority for Pentax right now though, and cameras like the K-m and the progression of the K20d/K200d will probably be more important and profitable for the immediate future I think.

Would be nice though, but its development could stretch them to breaking point financially, and I wouldn't want that...

There have been rumours that Pentax are looking at an ASP-H sensor (1.3 crop over 35mm), these appear a bit stronger than thoes for a full frame.

Anyway, with the advances in sensor technology and post capture processing in camera and on chip, I am not sure that there will be much advantage of a full frame sensor for studion work a few years down the line.

Sorry but why would you need a FF camera for your own studio? Have you seen Ben Kanerek's photos? made with Pentax K10d and K20D in a studio?
I am bored with this constant discussion over FF cameras. I am happy with APS-C and the lenses intended there for.

You are happy but you are not everyone. If your bored with FF questions , then dont read the posts Gwyn.

Mattp, the FF discussion crops up here regularly - if you do a search you will find plenty of opinions on it and on the likelyhood of there being one.

I still don't understand why you would need an FF camera for studio work. Plenty of professional photographers, including Ben manage just fine without.
Plus you will need a load of new lenses if they do ever come with a FF.

But hey three new cameras next year - maybe you'll get your wish.

Myth#1 - You need FF for studio work.
Answer#1 - Utter tosh

You should see what I've done with the old *ist-D in a studio-style environment You can bet that my results with the K10D were better still, and the K20D results are drop dead gorgeous

Studio photography requires good lighting, not full frame

Myth#2 - My images will be better with a FF camera.
Answer#2 - If you can't take good photos with an APS-C dSLR then your photos on a FF will be disappointing too

Having the weight of a FF camera and lenses may make you look more professional. It's true, I've seen horrible photos taken on FF (both from an artistic viewpoint and from a technical one).

Bottom line - learn to use what you have

Hope that helps!

There has been so much discussion on this topic over the past several years I think most of us are bored by it. If Pentax were going to introduce a ff camera they would have to re-design every lens for it - not likely IMO.

BTW, should I sell my studio and give up photography because I use Pentax and they dont make a FF camera? Why do YOU think its so necessary?

Goodness, I hope these three posts weren't in response to my last post! I certainly didn't intend anything unfriendly, just genuinely curious/astonished/bewildered and intrigued, thats all!

do members expect new members to research everything that has been discussed on the pentax site in the last five years.
if your not interested in the question, and helping why bother waisting your time
i expect every question has been asked more than once.

Absolutely. Many questions have been revisited time and time again and it would be most unreasonable to expect a new poster to check everything that had gone before, just in case it had already been covered. A forum is an area of flux, not a book that has to be written and then set in stone.

Anyway, the second and third times around new and updated information can come to light.

At this time there has actually been wider talk of a FF sensor, and indeed Pentax themselves have raised it as a possible future path. It still probably leaves us a long way from the actual release of such a product, but then again who knows what plans have been in place and for how long.

As for lenses, I should imagine that the idea that we would buy lots of FF lenses having bought lots of DA ones would seem a pretty nice idea to the accountants! The lenses exist anyway, witness the new 200mm which is the same as the last 200mm produced for film, albeit it in a new casing.

Never say never...
Best regards, John
