I just got computerised and am searching the 'net' for photo sites;found an American one where in the Forum was discussion on the fact that Fuji ARE DISCONTINUING VELVIA 50 ASA! That will upset the well-known 'names' using Pentax 6x7 and Velvia such as Lee Frost! Is it TRUE members? Maybe there will be some onfo at FOCUS at Birmingham (by the way PENTAX is noticeable by its ABSENCE in list of exhibitors!)
Been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED?
Taken the PLUNGE - BUT FILM STILL RULES !!!

Hi,
Velvia has always been my film of choice. There is nothing on the Fuji website which suggests that the 50 ASA is about to be discontinued (http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/proPhotoProductVelvia.jsp). There were various rumours around a short while ago about Kodak stopping 35mm production. This transpired to be that they were stopping film production in certain countries. It may well be that with demand falling, Fuji will concentrate production in just one or two factories and move it around rather than producing it locally. If you look here http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/GenericStaticPage.jsp?DBID=476027 Fuji are introducing "Made in Japan, packaged for the USA" film. This would support the theory that Maybe they are stopping production in the USA.
Having said that, the 100ASA version is so good that they may have decided that the difference in quality is so small that demand for the 50ASA version would no longer make it financially viable with such a close and good alternative. ime will tell

Kim

Hi,
I also had a look at the UK Fuji site. On there they have announced a new version of Velvia called Velvia 100 (as opposed to 100F). They describe it as having the same colour and tonal balance as the original Velvia (50ASA) but having much finer grain as well as being faster at 100ASA. They didn't mention what will happen to the older ones. Perhaps this is a replacement.

I've just looked on www.fujilab.co.uk to see what they have for sale, and it looks like Velvia 100F is taking over in 35mm (you can still buy 50ASA for 120 format).

They have a triples deal - 3 Velvia 100F process paid for £23.47 + p&p which is a great deal

They do also have a "Pick'n'mix" that includes Velvia 50ASA (three of Provia/Velvia/Astia and processing for £21.99).
