I can confirm the reviews having owned one a few years back. Used to use mine with a Pentax 1.7xAF converter. I took the Moto GP Racer (Valentino Rossi) that is in my Pentax User portfolio with this combo on a K10D. Shows what the lens is capable of and it is easily hand held as well as it is small for an F4 300mm lens. Only slight drawback is longish focus throw when using manually but obviously does not matter when used with the 1.7X AF converter. I already have a 300mm otherwise would have snapped it up at that excellent price. Good luck with the sale and I would presume smiles on the lucky buyers face.

The only member of the 'M' series lenses to be given the green * designation, it has an excellent reputation for quality and compactness, easily handheld and fairly light for a 300mm. The reviews over on the US forum are quite complimentary:

Cosmetically it is nothing short of tatty. The black paint has peeled in some places and metal is showing through a bit. You can see what I mean in this photo:
Mechanically it has smooth focusing, except sometimes at the close end you can feel a little grittiness, 4 out of 5 times you probably wouldn't experience it. The aperture is smooth and snappy with no oil or stiffness:
Optically it performs extremely well, the coatings (rear and front) are in fairly good condition, but there are several fine scratches across the front element - on quick inspection these may not be noticed, but angling the lens to the light you can see them - as in this photo:
