Excellent TC, I've found that using the DA*300 tripod mounted the Teleplus 1.7x works fine AF wise, for some reason, hand held of resting on a hide shelf in my cupped hand, AF hunts. I presume it's the SDM trying to achieve critical focus but have no proof.

To be honest I only tried it handheld on the DA*300 partly
because I never use a tripod with that lens. I'll try it on a
tripod tomorrow. The light is also a lot brighter now than
when I tried it.

on to the 55-300 test thread rather than start another.

I was amazed this one worked. The 150-500mm was right out at 500mm
+1.7x TC = 850mm (but the 500mm is probably less than 500 )
It was shaking handheld at 1/125th f/8 400ISO I was going to
leave it, but the viewfinder went very steady so I fired off
a shot on AF-S. I was amazed that it was so sharp and even the
corner of the roof is sharp and the colours were spot on. AF is
the same as without the TC.

Does the teleconverter send the correct EXIF data? If it does, is the focal length correct? ie does 150mm on the lens save as 255mm?

Unfortunately not, so SR is not optimal, but I've never put a lot of faith in SR when shooting wildlife, you need a fast shutter speedDoes the teleconverter send the correct EXIF data? If it does, is the focal length correct? ie does 150mm on the lens save as 255mm?

The shot above of the building/folly should have complete
EXIF data. Good TC's just pass the data straight through so
the focal length will be whatever the lens is zoomed to.
In the case of the Sigma 150-500mm the shake reduction is
built into the lens and I was amazed how steady it made the
image on the building/folly shot.
This shot was with the Pentax 55-300mm with the Pentax K-5
SR accidentally set to 28mm when the lens was probably at
about 250mm It's not made much difference...
The TC in this case was purely manual it didn't pass
the lens info (Pentax 1.4X-S A series TC ) No AF either.
That's why I've been looking for a good AF fully auto
TC like this Jessops one that passes all the info and
allows AF.

Hi Algi,
a couple of questions:-
1) Is there any way to get the menu to allow you to enter a corrected focal length when using a tele-convertor with a known lensas you can if using a non-Pentax lens in manual mode? (I have had to do this when using Canon FD lenses with an adaptor.)
2) You recommended using the Tamron 1.4x tele-convertor with an SDM lens rather than your 1.7x. Please can you explain why?
Background: I have a Kenko 1.4 tele-convetor that will only work on manual with the 18-135mm DC lens and won't work at all with my 200mm SDM lens. It doesn't have all the connections though whereas your 1.7x seems to.

I don't think the FL matters too much with reasonably high speeds.
There is a graph on the US Forum somewhere and some comments about
not being able to enter the FL with most TC's. The older MF
Pentax-A TC's do allow it, but I've not noticed any difference.
I wouldn't bother too much about it. I wonder if Canikon lenses
with built into the lens SR are able to allow for a TC? Unlikely.
The 1.4x probably lets about 1/3rd more light through which
possibly helps SDM for some reason, although the Sigma 150-500mm
works and that's darker at something like f/6.3.
I wouldn't know if the 200mm SDM will work or not with the
f/1.7 maybe johnwhit knows?
It's possible that the K-5ii will work better than my K-5
due to the better low light AF.

No the option is greyed out in the menu, unless you're using a manual lens i.e. K, M, or A series. I've tried every suggestion to no avail.Hi Algi,

Yes it works with all SDM lenses, I have the Pz-AF 1.7x TELEPLUS SHQ. Pz-AF 1.5x TELEPLUS SHQ (KENKO) and the Tamron 1.4x. AFAIK Teleplus make all of them, maybe the Tamron uses different glass but it's a Teleplus design, the Jessops and others are just rebadged. Never tried a DC lens as I don't have one.I wouldn't know if the 200mm SDM will work or not with the

Excellent condition. Looks unused.
Has all the contacts for HSM/SDM 7 contacts each side + Pz contacts each side.
Original top and bottom caps.
No box or case.
£149 inc. RMSD to the UK. Sorry no offers I'm already losing on what I paid for it.
Works well with Sigma DG 150-500mm F5.6 - 6.3 APO HSM latest Optical Stabilizer version
and makes it a very long but usable lens.
The Sigma Optical Stabilizer really does a good job.
It also works well with Pentax 55-300mm screw drive which is what I bought it for, but
didn't realize that it was identical to the Pz-AF 1.7x Teleplus SHQ TC which I already
had. I wanted a lightweight outfit to carry around that would go beyond 500mm and this fills the bill.
It works with my only SDM lens Pentax DA*300mm f/4, but you have to keep pressing the AF
button to get an accurate focus. I wouldn't therefore recommend it for an SDM lens the
Tamron 1.4x would be better, but that isn't very good with the 55-300mm.
Loses 1 to 1.33 stops which can easily be covered by
increasing the ISO
See this thread for further info and test shots:

Only the Jessop TC is included in the sale, but I have also shown the Teleplus
in the following photos, so that you can see that only the labels are different.
Because I only want to keep one of these TC's I will sell the Teleplus if
anyone prefers it, but it would have to be £30 extra to cover what I paid
for it.
