Fountains Abbey, Oct '14

Spent a very pleasant morning yesterday with Carl and Barrie and learnt a lot from Carl about getting the most out of the locality - thanks, Carl, for playing host on your local patch! I didn't stay for the evening light show, but no doubt Carl and Barrie will have something to show from that. Here are a few from around the abbey first - nothing original (it is Fountains Abbey, after all!), but I hope an interesting question about colour or B&W - which best suits the subject? I just caught a brief period of sunlight which produced some lovely shadow effects and would be glad of opinions. All K-5ii and 18-135mm lens

no 9 for me as well John - may post a similar shot taken in the evening when I get my act in gear - or Barrie may beat me to it

Was surprised to see Abbey shots from you - expected to see Stags.

Carl
No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

It was an excellent day all round and good to meet you John.

#5 and #9 for me.

Generally speaking I like to see colour images of the abbey because of the rich tones in the stone work. But I think with some of these B&W works because it overcomes the green of the grass.

Don't worry, Carl, plenty of stags to come. Thought the daytime abbey shots might avoid duplicating anything you or Barrie may want to post. Looking forward to some night time shots from you!

No 6, in mono, is my favourite as well as the last. Great atmosphere and nice subdued processing.
