The way I interpret this is juxtaposition=contrast in the visual sense and not in a photographic context.
For instance poverty/wealth; beauty/ugliness; happy/sad; youth/age; modern/historical etc. Dr Mhuni may want to correct me if I misunderstand, or enlarge on his thoughts.

Yes I meant it that way but wasn't sure.
The free dictionary gave this as definition:
To place side by side, especially for comparison or contrast.
And wiki gave this:
A placing or being placed in nearness or contiguity, or side by side, often done in order to compare/contrast the two, to show similarities or differences.
So it does not have to be a contrast after all, right?
I'm not English so the term has no real meaning for me whatsoever, but glad a real English men is struggling as well

Tim's entry in the weekly competitons (jet plane flying over an historical house) would have fitted equally well in the juxtapositions comptitions.

The internet is awash with English dictionaries but their quality is variable. I'd be inclined to stick with the two that are considered the most authoritative in the UK, the Oxford link and Chambers link.
The online versions aren't as complete as the printed ones but they're a good place to start if you want an accurate answer.
