for those who know their framebuilders...

i met Dario Pegoretti on saturday and took some photos of him with my bike that he built. he then looked at my camera and said that he uses the same type. he then explained that he loves his Pentax as it takes photos that are just as good as canikons and, besides, everyone uses them.

for such an individual (check out the paint jobs on his bikes) it's not a great surprise.

he's got good taste in music too.
Pentax k1000, MX, ME Super, K5iiD 18-55, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 500 mirror, pentax 10-17, 50 1:4, a manual 28, some extension tubes and a bagful of memory cards. That's all i need... and a load of film cameras too... that's it, honest.

I know Pegoretti but have never met one on the road - some inspired paint jobs amongst them. A frame for a new touring bike build would be most welcome. Do you think he'll be willing to negotiate a good price if the opening line includes "Pentax"?

So how did your bike turn out. Did you get special paint job?

i got mine in 2001, luckily ordered it before Robert Millar's review came out. It was just under £2k, that was the limit i had set. at the time the frame (Marcelo) was £1,080. i got a standard paint scheme, but with colours of my choice. i was measured up for the frame, so it was custom.

always worth a shot with Dario, he's a great character. i was going to try for a discount on a new one by saying i worked for a charity. another frame is top of my list should i ever happen into a large sum of money.
