Hi,
I'm having problems getting my Optio 30 to focus.I've done everything I can find in the manual but still all my pictures are coming out blurred. It worked fine until recently and the problem seemed to appear after I changed the batteries although I can't imagine that that would have anything to do with it.When I hold the shutter button half down the little box which appears round the object to be photographed flashes red when according to the manual I think it should be green.I even reset all the defaults but that made no difference either.Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
John.

I had the same problem. First time was on guarantee period and local Pentax Service repaired it. They told me that several customers had the same complaint. Now after six month I have the same problem again. I am convinced it is a design problem

Thanks for your reply,it seems from other comments I've read that it is a common problem with this model camera.I tried emailing Pentax customer care and presumably they don't care since they never replied. However,on the bright side, I found a similar forum to this one and a member there said he had the same problem and tried everything with no effect but then he dropped his camera and it worked ok again.I figured I had nothing to lose and with it switched off I tapped it gently against the wall and lo and behold I switched it on and it worked fine!Obviously I guess this approach couldn't be recommended and who knows, the results may only be temporary but it worked for me and if the only alternative is throwing it away...well it's up to you!

Cheers
John.

might try that with my Espio 120, the drive motor has packed up again, despite being repaired by Pentax and having had very little use since.
There's no way I'm paying for a further repair job, so nothing to lose eh?
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

Might be related...

A colleague at work has an Optio S40, and his wife managed to drop it (not far, but a small ding in the case). It would turn on, extend the lens, the LCD would work for a second or two, then give up and shut down.
Pentax wanted the standard repair price, so it wasn't worth it, and as he had nothing to lose (and we're electronic design engineers here), he took it apart.

There's a very small stepper motor that controls the focus mechanism. It has a fairly long worm screw on it, with a screw slot on the very end. Well, he decided to give it a few turns to see what would happen. When turned on - it worked! Looked like the focus mechanism went out-of-bounds and needed a little persuasion to get back in its working range

!!Try it at your own risk!! But I thought the information might be useful, and perhaps a bit more scientific than the "non integrated kinetic percussional adjustment" (i.e. hit it )
