Birmingham is not far for me, so I will be going even though Pentax aren't there. It's a decent show and Pentax User will be there.
There is always a fair representation from dealers and manufacturers who exhibit (and sell) there. Many of them have special offers for the duration of the show. I usually buy a years supply of paper from Fotospeed and save the VAT!
Depending what Pentax announce next year I may come over to Photokina. I visited in 2006 with my wife and a couple of friends and met with a few others from Europe and the USA who came over.

Never been to a photography show - what are the freebies like and are there any genuine bargains to be had?

I wonder if going is a form of masochism... all those toys one cannot afford.

It's a good show Photoshop are there giving advice, Capture one, the list goes on. More printing medium's than you can shake a stick at.
plus models to shoot, studio gear, tripods, lenses, Photographic body's to join, magazines to sign up for it's a really good show.
but on the down side you can spend a lot of money (you have been warned)

Good show I've been many times. They sent my registration number approx 5/6 weeks ago. In 2008 P.U. did some large prints for free! It would be great if they put on another free offer of some sort.
Various manufactures and suppliers have special offers at these type of shows. Sensor cleaners, Wrist straps, Papers. etc.
CHEERS Vic.
PS Also lots of lectures to go to. Book early. Vic.

PMA has always been that so I suspect that they will show the 645D there with some of the lenses and maybe the super telephoto lens.
Since this show is in Febuari you can suspect that the new goods will be there in Britain as well.
If they don't show the super telephotolens at PMA then they might show it at photokina later this year.

They may well show prototypes and announce some new models for release throughout the coming year at PMA, but they also do this at the Japan Photo Expo and Photokina, they do this for all the major shows they exhibit at. I believe that Pentax officially launched the K10D at Photokina 2006. It was the first time any working models were available to handle.RichardDay wrote:

Pentax haven't shown at FOCUS for several years, they did have a joint stand when Intro 2020 were doing part of the trade distribution a couple of years ago, but they haven't exhibited in their own right for about 5 or 6 years. Their view (or excuse) is that FOCUS is more of a dealer show (a Boot Sale/Traders Market was the inference ), but that hasen't stopped all of their competitors, both larger and smaller from exhibiting.
I think that if they had diverted the expense of their new (and IMO useless) web store to having a stand at FOCUS they would considerably increase their UK business to a far greater level.
Camera World do usually have a stand with some Pentax gear and maybe Jacobs. Pentax User have a joint stand with their sister operation e-Photozine, which is where some Pentaxians gather (it's next to the buffet area!).
As far as UK trade shows go, the exhibition space/stand costs are pretty low, and I think that we should all petition Chris at SRS and convince him to have a stand and put Pentax UK to shame! He should also twist their arm for funding and support!
