Focus confirmation on a DS

I have just got hold of an ist*DS and was having a play with it today and decided to try my Takumar M42 50mm 1.4 on it.
I am using an original pentax adapter with it but for reasons unknown I can't get the focus confirmation to work with it.
It works fine on the K20 but not the DS. Am I missing something. :

I put on the DA 18-55 that came with it and you get confirmation with that but not the old screw ons. Baffled

My DS doesn;t confirm with M42 lenses either.

A little disappointed at this as my old eyes aren't what they used to be, and I rely on the focus confirmation.

It works with M lenses, so why doesn't it work with all lenses? How does the type of lens make any difference? The confrmation is based on the image, not on info from the lens.

Use MF mode.

I tried MF and still no confirmation :

Clarky, I've dug out some SMC Takumars and a Pentax M42/K adapter, the focus confirmation comes on on my DS when the focus switch is set to MF or AUTO. However, I think the problem lies here:

menu/custom setting/FI with S lens used. this should be set to '2 available'

Enjoy the DS, quite a different beast from the K20d I'd imagine but a sweet little Pentax nonetheless.

Anyway, this is one of the things I love about this forum, knowledge sharing without frontiers.

Its a wee little thing and something I have been after for a while as a light weight kit for macro work.

The chap I brought it off had 2 of them and upgraded to a K20 so he sold me his backup DS kit. Only 770 shutter actuations on it and he threw in the DA 18-55 mkII lens which came with his K20, all for AU$350

The *istDS is a terrific camera and in many ways I preferred it to my K10D....

In what ways? Just curious....
