Pentax LX, Kodak CN400BW film, probably my K 135mm f/2.5 lens (probably!), taken on the ferry to Ikea in Brooklyn.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I cant believe you went to New York and instead of spending the day taking photos you decided to go shopping at Ikea

I was going to ask iof we could see it in colour but quickly realised you shot it on film I think the background is a little too cluttered Kris and am wondering if the shot really needs the scyscrapers on the left. whats the one in the distance with the spire, is it the Empire State Building? I'd have just left that on.

I didn't go shopping at Ikea, just used the free ferry to go to Red Hook where there are lots of photographic opportunities and an excellent coffee/cake shop. Well, the cakes are excellent, the coffee mediocre.

I was aiming for as many American icons as possible: Wall Street, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge and the flag. I'll see how trimming some of the left hand side looks.

A thoughtful and effective view, Kris. If I were to be picky then I should prefer to see a little more of the Brooklyn Bridge. (I've always wanted to cross it!)
Best wishes,

Andrew

You keep it as it is Kris, its your shot. Its one of the downsides of been in a camera club, you hear so many judges talking about images you automatically go into critique mode when you see one I know from expreience when your out and about its all too easy to compose and shoot what you feel is right at the time, though Andrews reply has now drawn my eye to the bridge and I'm wondering.........if you crop the right hand side to almost the flag, then the scyscraper on the left seems to balance with it more, but on the other hand if you had taken ten paces to the right......

Judges dont care about you drowning either

I like the way the pole is sharp but the flag isn't, giving the impression of it moving about as its a windy day - I like that
And the flag segues nicely into the oof background, bringing it all together. I like it too.
