All you need to do is put it on and it should work.
Do you've any EV compensation on perhaps and what distance are you using the flash and with what lens?

Found out that flash was not compatable not Dg. glad i shoot in RAW was able to retrive under and over exposed photo because of in corect flash will need to get a new one thanks for trying to help:
