Are you looking at P-TTL or manual? The Lumopro 180 is a manual flash that will work with any camera, built like a tank and provides a lot of power, same as an SB 900. You can pick them up in the USA for a very reasonable price. There are lots of other cheap options on EBay, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. Metz, make some very good P-TTL flashes, you can get them second hand if a new on is above your budget.

I'd always go for a manual flash, but that's just my personal preference - I like to set things up myself. Yongnuo 460ii flashes seem to be the budget strobe of choice these days. All fully manual of course.
Ckeck out Minolta 4000AFs though - they can be had very very cheap, offer manual power settings, are safe to use etc. They're what I use.
