I was wondering is there a lead which I can attach to the flash and plug into camera so that the flash doesn't have to sit on the camera? Understand what I'm saying/asking?
Yup I was wondering is there a lead which I can attach to the flash and plug into camera so that the flash doesn't have to sit on the camera? Understand what I'm saying/asking?
And it's not cheap. You need a lead, and two adapters:
Sync Cord F 5P normally around £20 - £30 second hand,
Hot Shoe Adapter Fg - allows popup flash to work as well. Around £20 S/H
and finally:
Either Off Camera Adapter F (has tripod socket) or Hot Shoe Adapter F which will fit onto a hotshoe (but you have to watch out for shorting of the contacts) - both around £20.
These turn up in places like www.mxv.co.uk and www.ffordes.co.uk, as well as other second hand places.
Hope that helps!

Actually, Matt, the 240 has a sync socket, so the off-camera adapter is not needed.
Also, the Adapter Fg is required if you want to use the built-in flash as well as the 240. If not, the ordinary Adapter F is fine.

I stand corrected Actually, Matt, the 240 has a sync socket, so the off-camera adapter is not needed.
Though there are (stupidly) an AF240Z and an AF240FT... any idea which has the socket??
The AF540-FGZ has a 5P sync socket - which is a very useful addition

Matt,
I was assuming (wrongly) that the OP had acquired a flash unit compatible with the K10D. Your reference to 5p kit reinforced that misapprehension.
On re-reading, I see that he in fact bought the much earlier 240Z, which not only doesn't have a 5p socket, or even a 4p socket, but can only be used manually with the K10D.
That being the case, a more economical option than cables would be a flash sensor.

By the way, the 240Z is a nice little unit.

Ah! Thanks for that George... that looks exactly the same as the Sigma I saw in the Speed Graphic catalogue for £30 this morning.
(And, of course, if it's purely manual, then an old style 2-pin PC cord and hot shoe adapter will do as well. But the wireless one is much neater for portraits and still life!)
