I'm not a train person but that is a gorgeous photo. The frost and the light really make it. K.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

You were blessed with wonderful light - it looks stunning. The atmosphere is great, helped by the cold and a bit of mist or is it smoke or steam causing the line of wagons to disappear. Great stuff!

Number 1 is a good shot, but doesn't grab me like the second one does. That is just a fantastic image, I am not sure how you could have bettered it.

Image number two is as good as it gets for scene and content. First class work.

I know it's a Southern engine which it can't help (!) but a marvellously atmospheric study. You can almost smell the frost and smoke.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Stephen, I can but join the others in complimenting you on the second shot - absolutely wonderful and in my opinion among the finest photos to have been seen on PU in recent times.

The bull is lovely in terms of portraiture, but like others I'm distracted by the background - particularly the lady to the left of the frame.

Superbly atmospheric, that Steam train image has it all! It has a great layout, with the whole train and steam stack encompassed in the frame. Also the unusual sky tone, all diffused, adds to an atmosphere of fantasy. A great No 2 !

No. 2 is a stunner. I guess it may have been a photo charter but to get the two guys looking at the camera really adds to this remarkable shot.

Nigel, yes a photo charter on the Watercress Line, the light was stunning. One of my pet hates in Steam photography is "robotrains" with no visible humans controlling the loco! On the other hand, I recently took some pics where the fireman was leaning out of the cab with a digital camera in hand!

Yes indeed, this was a photocharter on the Mid-Hants (Watercress) Railway....the frost and still air mean the exhaust was something special, and the sun burning through the mist was fantastic. As an added bonus, Sky TV had left some fake snow at this spot after filming a Christmas advert there. reat in these conditions, but the stuff stayed around for nearly 18 months, despite being bio-degradable.
