Five in a Row - my eclectic mix

That is almost postcard perfect. I like the composition (more space ahead of the Spitfire than behind), the angle of the pilot's head and the propeller blur. I'm intrigued by the shutter speed, though. I usually pan older planes at 1/125 or 1/160 and rarely go beyond 1/250 for fear of freezing the prop. It's quite possible, of course, that my technique is rubbish.

On a wholly separate note, Phil has asked if I'll compile the next chapter of five photos. I'll leave a little time for folk to pass further comment on the Spitfire and will commence either later today or first thing Monday.

And no, they won't all be racing cars...

+1 to what Simon said re the picture ,looks spot on to me.

Excellent shot, no critical comments from me. This is one genre of photography I haven't tried yet, I must give it a go.

#4 lacks drama as a few have commented, I wonder if this is because it requires some strong focal point to give it foreground interest. Darkening the sky seems to help a little but for me does not solve the problem.
#5 The Spitfire is an excellent capture, you must have good reactions to get this so sharp.

re the shutter speed - I chose 1/400 because of the speed of the plane and I wanted to get it as sharp as I could, but you're right about the prop - 1/150 or 1/200 would have been better for the prop, but I think that I would have been less likely to get the aircraft as sharp. I look forward to your 5 with interest.

An excellent final shot Phil, I particularly like how the wing underside is well lit and balanced with the rest of the aircraft body. Well done, I've enjoyed your Five in a row very much.
