It may be just me but I find it a bit too on the dark side.

I'd say it's too dark, as well.
Assessing brightness by eye is a big problem on computers as screens often have big variations in brightness between each other.

It is supposed to be a dark one. Not to dark of course - looks pretty decent from here - I use my laptop and my work computer - so I have two computers to view it on.
Probably both set pretty much the same then.....
