First time DSLR owner!

First of all, Greetings!

As per the title, I've just bought my very first dSLR and it's a K-5. I'd read review after review and got stuck in that (near) endless loop of "What should I get?". I started off wanting the K-r, then once hearing it was being discontinued I held off (wanting the price to drop more than anything) and ended up looking in to other brands and models. I went to my local Jessops and tried out the Sony A35, which was brilliant! But ended up also becoming discontinued (in the single lens model) and so I went for the big sister model, the A55. After ordering that and then realising that it was no longer in stock, I felt the world was somewhat against me when it came to getting myself a camera before Christmas.. Until today!

While in the car (on the way to pick up an A55 which I'd reserved in store) I checked CameraPriceBuster to find that the K-5 on Amazon had dropped in price down to £745, which along with the cashback made the final price £655; which seemed a great deal for the K-5.

All in all, it's been dispatched and will arrive here tomorrow. I'm incredibly excited and look forward to learning off you all in the future.

Sorry for the long message!

Thanks guys

I keep thinking that I've bought a camera that's just "too good" for what I need..

Just bought a 35mm f/2.4 prime lens off eBay (brand new) for £110 which seems like a good price.

Quite excited now, hopefully when it arrives all the doubt in my mind that I picked the wrong camera will vanish.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

look at it from the other angle... as you develop and improve you won't need to upgrade your camera as you already have a very good one

If I gain nothing else from being on these boards, that'll do!

On another note, it's just arrived! First thing I did was open the manual to page 59 and learn how to attach the lens, lol.

Don't think my revision is going to go too well today...

I had a K20D which I loved untill I got a K5 they are superb, hope you like yours as much as I like mine.
But about the DA35 2.4, you really should have scoured this forum before buying at £110. you would have seen they are on sale at Amazon for £67.new.

Really? I think Amazon must be out of stock then as the cheapest I can see is £132.99

It's frustrating finding that out, but as long as this one arrives before Christmas then I'll be pleased enough.

I paid £145 I think, and it was worth every penny, so don't worry! Welcome to the forum - a good place to keep an eye out for deals!

Sorry Bill but the offer only lasted one day, after which they doubled in price - so If you missed the offer £110 is still an excellent price.

I ordered one as soon as I read the first posting on here, but I think if I had missed the boat I would have waited to se if they got more stock in at that price, or if any other dealer joined the Hot Cake Sale. You cannot afford to not check this forum to find who has spotted the best prices.
