First single-handed event shoot

I had a bit of a hectic day on Sunday as I agreed to be our club's 'official' photographer for our disabled drivers scholarship day. My brother was going to lend a hand but he had to take his son to a tennis match - so I was on my own! The aim of the scholarship day was to assess and select a couple of drivers from the final 13 entrants, who would then get the chance to drive the club's converted car for the season. It was somewhat nerve wracking as I had to get a photographic record of the day and make sure I didn't miss anyone or anything. Not much time for anything too arty or creative, and had to shoot directly into the sun quite a bit of the time. The army barracks location is not the most photogenic either. I was quite relieved when I got home and found I'd got a reasonable set of acceptable images (at least for the purpose of the exercise) as there was no chance for any real post processing, just upload to Aperture and crop etc. and upload and get them circulated ASAP.

Pretty much everything was shot with the K20D and 16-45, with the odd few using the 55-300. I hardly got a chance to use my new DA*200 as it was too long for anything other than a couple of the shots early on whilst setting up. All in all though it was a really great day with a great bunch of people.

I see what you mean! You have taken a ton of images and they do convey what is going on without the need for words.

Thanks Pauly, the images seem to be well received so far by those that have seen them, I've got to burn some CD's now to go out to the competitors as a memento from the day, and a few shots are going off to the local paper o publicise the programme. There's a club meeting tonight so I'll see what everyone thinks.

I'm actually on the Rutland side of Leicester, so know that area quite well. The event was actually at the Gamecock Barracks, but the club has members from all over Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

I was indeed knackered (and sunburnt!) by the end of the day as I also had to help set up and breakdown the marquee and bit of marshalling too. I got home watched the F1 highlights, ran all the images through the Mac and uploaded low res versions, then went to bed!

I had planned to setup the istD and 16mm on the camera mount but ran out of time to do that before the event kicked off but I'll probably do that on our evening events when they start next month, but I'll need to concentrate on actually driving then as well
