I'm kinda surprised. Just went outside in the dusk (my camera is home!) to try out my Porst 55mm f1.2 PK mount. First thoughts, what gives, why do people call this soft wide open? I'm pretty impressed!

Got to run but will post more shots later

I had one of these lenses, I don't think it's soft. Just 1.2 is a very very very thin depth of field. I found it difficult to get sharp shots hand held so got rid of it.

I like the dreamy effect from f/1.2. Any lens of that spec will have a very thin DOF wide open, but they can be razor sharp when stepped down a couple of notches.

It's certainly no reason for getting rid of it
Best regards

Odd question, I just noticed when I stop down on the aperture ring (both on this and my other non-PKA lens) I had thought it would do that immediately - which it doesn't seem to. I.e. would make the viewfinder darker as the blades shot out. Also, I don't seem to notice any difference in exposure / DOF when I stop down in the pictures. When I'm looking at the front of the lens when I take a shot, it is stopping down as I can see the change in the aperture.

Am I doing something wrong here? I'm in Av mode.

you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

How kind of you Mongoose! So now I've got my 30mm f1.4 and my 55mm f1.2... so what's the next stupidly fast prime I need? They should make a 15mm f1.0, that'd be sweet!

The isolation / DOF is just unreal! I'm finding that the bokeh can be a little loud / milky at times though depending on the background content. The moss picture shows a bit of a harsh bokeh, and shot of kittah exaggerates the milky effect due to her colour. Overall I'm quite happy with the new toy though.

If your house sets on fire, don't let the insurer see this picture of a 60W bulb in a 40W watt fitting.

Nice lens. Is it fire proof?

Using a 60w bulb in this day and age the man should be taken outside and shot.

Love the pics though so you are forgiven, off to search ebay.
