Hi Spanner Welcome to the nuthouse Looking forward to seeing your photos
Pentax K7 and K5 and several black tubey things with magnifying glass in that twist around and move in and out - to be honest I am not sure exactly what I have. Will list the proper names one day..

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I purchased a Kood M42 adaptor. Mounted it on the camera, seemed a bit stiff, but I put it down to being new. Then disaster it would not come off!. The only way was it use my sharp cutters and cut the adaptor at its two weakest points. I was then able to pull free from the camera leaving only small marks on the lens mount.

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum.
It seems you've learnt a valuable lesson regarding third party M42 adapters; namely steer clear! I have three adapters, one genuine Pentax which is as smooth as silk and two third party ones which, well, aren't! With the latter two I've removed the small piece of metal that locks onto the camera mount and left them permanently attached to lenses; by drilling small holes in the base of the lenses (to align with the camera's locking pin) I then use them as I would K-mount glass.
Still, at least you didn't have to send your camera back to get the ring removed - you wouldn't have been the first if you did!

The only M42/PK to use is the Pentax branded one, also use the Key to remove.
Welcome to the forum, from another older person.

Recently purchased a Pentax K20 with 18-55 and 55-300 on the last cashback day. I had spent several months looking at reviews, forums and narrowed down my choice to Pentax or Olympus. As soon as the dealer put the Pentax into my hands I knew it was the right choice. The camera was just quality compared to the Olympus. Was it the excellent handling, the large bright viewfinder with clear information, the built in SR so that I can use my old screw mount lenses, two years guarantee, high ASA, I could go on.
I am amazed by the SR when using the 55-300 at 300mm with my 60 year old hands.
