First pics with my K-r

Been out today to test my new camera, just a few pics I took not brilliant but still playing with the different settings, what would be the best generic setting, P,M,Sv etc

Focus is out on most of them.

Best setting for everyday use for most people in most circumstances is AV, and sensitivity of 200 ISO. Go to 400 or even 800 if light is poor.

(Almost) always keep shake reduction on, and remember to adjust aperture to reflect what you are photographing. Wide for the insect, small for landscapes. A small aperture keeps most things in focus, a wide one only what you focus on. But a small one requires a lower shutter speed to compensate for the reduced light reaching the lens.

Put all settings for colour, contrast, etc to neutral, until and unless you find you would prefer something different.

Novices to digital photography tend to over-sharpen and over-saturate their images. Less is more, generally.

Get and use a post-processing (image-editing) program of some sort, and use it to fine-tune your pictures. EVERY picture benefits from some adjustment.

Thanks for the advice, I know they aren't perfect it was windy and the animals wouldn't stay still I will make the changes to my camera now and see how I go

What lens did you use for the photos above?

A Tamron 55-300mm + a 2x adaptor, the locust was the 18-55mm that came with the camera

I set my focus up so that there is only one red dot where I am focusing.

You could try this setting and see if it also works for you.
