I am sure you will enjoy your new camera a lot! I have the older K7 which is still great to use. Nice photo (although not a great cat lover personally!)

Thanks Andy.
I'm not a cat lover either. For many years we had dogs and I can see we will have more in the future.
The cat turned up as a bedraggled specimen about 3 years ago looking pathetic and she has been here ever since.

What a great camera you chose to buy Dave. I'm sure, like many of us that own one, you are going to find it one superb piece of kit.
My parents have had 3 cats and every one of those was a stray that 'adopted' them too !

Hi Dave, and welcome. I'm new to the K5 and forum, and have found it a great help and inspiration....much more than the manual. Sounds like you are itching to get to grips with your new purchase! Lens buying addiction will soon kick in, so beware.
For the moment it looks like the cat will be pressed into service. Lovely cat, our Milliepuss knows the drill with a new camera or lens.

Thanks folks.
I'm playing with attaching old K mount lenses to the K5. These are the original K mounts from the mid 1970s and I was a bit concerned that I'd do something disastrous - I heard some old lenses cannot be removed!
I looked on the Web and was surprised how simple was the attaching of a 35 year old lens. I'm having a few probs with the focussing, but enjoying the experience.

For the last couple of years I have used a Panasonic FZ28. This is a superb camera - very easy to use and IMO capable of producing some excellent images, but many years ago I used a 35mm SLR and although the FZ28 is very good, I felt I wanted to get closer to what I had years ago.
I looked at a lot of DSLRs but eventually decided on a K5, probably because in the mid/late 1970s the SLR I had was a Pentax.
The K5 arrived the day before yesterday and what an amazing camera it is. The manual is huge, but without reading too much, it is a very easy camera on which to understand the basics.
The weather in east London has been a bit dismal since it arrived, so I have not had much opportunity to use it but this is one of the first photos.
