Not bad. I don't do much B&W work myself, so can't offer any constructive advice in that direction.
The first isn't quite as sharp as it might be. The second is the best, but cropped a bit close on the (viewer's) left side.
I'd crop the third one to a portrait, to cut the wasted space.
Maybe a fraction more contrast would be good. Do you have a program that lets you tweak levels?

I like these portaits Les, and agree about the cropping. You've caught the light in your grand-daughter's eyes well.

The second one is lovely but as George says, it could be improved a little by some more space around it. I'd be very pleased with these as I don't really do 'people'.

Thank you all for you C&C. It has been very helpful and on trying out the suggestions I can see the improvements. I cropped no.3 in Flickr but lost the link so here it is again cropped.
George, I have PS version 6 which is old but I think does all I need at the moment. I took these in Mono mode in the K-m but it has been suggested that its better to shoot in colour and convert.
Would you agree?

Of the three I find this latest shot the most successful. There is enough space round your granddaughter's face and the contrast has improved.
BTW I would never shoot mono in camera. If you shoot in colour you can always convert to B+W later. If you shoot in B+W you can't convert back to colour. Or can you? Some tehcnical expert on here might say you can.

The last crop for me too. As others have noted the first ones are too tightly cropped. However I'm not so sure about the greyer skin tones in the latest version, and I think her irises are too black. In the earlier shots you can clearly see the seperate iris and cornea (currently looking at this on a crappy work screen though, so I might have got this wrong).
The BW conversion is richer and more contrasty in the latest version however I'm still not 100% convinced this shot is better in BW. Can we see any colour versions?

I see what is meant by "Blown Out" now its been pointed out. The tight crop on no.2 was how I took the picture. It was an opportunity as the camera was to hand but had the Tamron 70-300 fitted and I was only sitting across the room. She can be reluctant to have her photo taken and I just wanted to get some shots when she was distracted. No colour version as the K-m was set to mono. I future I will convert after.
