Finaly got to do a studio shoot......of sorts, as I mentioned sometime ago I've joined the local camera club but to get the use of the stiudio I have to do 3 sessions with an experienced user showing how to handle the lights so I don't break them

There was another 3 newbies along with me today so I really didn't get a chance to be very creative.

Here's the first 3 processed images, comments very welcome.....

In No 1, the eyes/head don't seem to be in focus, whereas the middle of the back is sharp.

Have the eyes been photo shopped? They don't look natural in any of the images.

The first picture looks very uncomfortable because of the odd shape to the arm and the eyes have been overdone so they look quite scary...

The second I think looking at the model from the front would have been more interesting, but the idea is sound.

The third is the best and is very nice. It's a comfortable and unusual pose and she looks good. The eyes are still over-done but that could easily be corrected.

Practice and practice and some really good results will follow.

Hope that helps!
Best regards, John

Thanks for the comments guys.

This is new to me as far as portraits go and I have too agree I've overworked the eyes (didn't look like that a 1.00am ) and maybe a bit too much gaussian blur on the first image, Ach well!! I'll see if version II comes out better.

As I never like to critique other peoples work and you know what they say about "Opinions" may I suggest that being this is a Portrait/Fashion shoot, that perhaps you read a little article I wrote that was re-printed in "180" magazine called "What it Takes" as well as listening to a short interview in three parts where I suggest ways of making your images work and what is required to do so. Perhaps you may not wish to embark on a full throttled career, but none the less, my bit of experience may help you to get to the essence more quickly.

this one appeals to me much more, a bit of life and personality, and she doesn't have Stargate Goauld eyes!

Hi Ben

I have absolutely no problems with any critasism as long as it's constructive, so fire away. I had already read the articals and while I appreciate what you say, as an outright amateur and full time engineer, grandad etc I have limited access to the professional sevices needed, I have to make the best I can with what skills I have and the skills of others that are available (I assume most of us here are in the same boat).

Here something else for critique, my PS skills
