Firmware update and shutter count

Anyone know if updating firmware will reset the shutter count?

I recently bought a secondhand *ist DS, and updated the firmware. Then I found out how to check the shutter count and it was around 600! Either I got a bargain or I've taken a lot more images than I thought.

It didn't on my Ds either. Looks like you got a bargain - or it's been round the clock already.

Check the number of shutter actuations from new via PhotoMe. This is not affected by firmware updates and never goes "round the clock".

The shutter count in the file names can be reset by the user at any time, so you can't go by that.
