Firmware for *istD

Some time ago, I updated the firmware in my *istD to version 1.12, which I got from the Pentax uk site. On checking just now for any further updates, I see that version 1.12 is no longer listed, only version 1.11.

I checked the camera and it definitely reports version 1.12.


Please, can someone shed some light on this?

I wouldn't run anything else in the *ist-D

Flash exposure problems in particular were a complete pain in the rear end until 1.12 arrived

Is there anywhere on the Internet where such gems of information are documented?

I would find it helpfull if Pentax would release firmware in standard .zip format rather than the Microsoft .exe format.

If .zip were used, then people like me who don't use Microsoft systems would find it easier. I use Linux, but Mac owners would also benefit. Presently, I have to find a PC which is running a Microsoft operating system, run the .EXE file, arrange to copy the resulting binary file to my Linux PC and then upload to the camera.

Along a similar line, is the camera/PC control interface documented? I would like to explore the benefits of controlling my *istD via a PC, but using Linux. I am a moderately competant programer.

Hmmm. Pentax never documented the exposure issues, but everyone who has upgraded to 1.12 has noticed significant improvements in flash exposure (as well as exposure niggles with some older Pentax lenses).

However, if you can't deal with HQX format, if you drop me an email I can forward you a zip file with the files. I agree entirely about not using Windows EXE files. You basically need just a txt file and the .bin file. It's only about 560k zipped.

If I was shooting a wedding and a person politely pointed out that my fly was down, I'd say thankyou for pointing that out, and zip it up, and go about my business. Isn't that what a firmwaer update does?

I appreciate that there is a lot of help to be found via this forum, for which I've been very grateful. However, it could be helpful to have access to formaly defined specs, etc.

I'm used to looking up engineering specs and to having access to detailed software info issued under the GPL (General Public License). It makes life much simpler. With WRT software, it's essencial!

WRT zip files: Thanks for the offer, but I can manage. It's just an unneccesary complication/irritation having to deal with .exe files.
