I see Don's signature which says "Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything"and always smile at it.

Maybe mine should say "Fired many shots - killed plenty"

Then I started to think about the 20 fps that a K20D can achieve - will it be possible to photograph the shot string for a shotgun? Next time I after clays, I may take it with me and see what can be achieved.

20 fps won't be a factor....unless you're shooting high speed video at 200 or more frames/sec.
what you need is flash, and some way to time the shot.
there are lots of resources on sound/laser triggers and high speed flash if you start googling!

Glad to hear my sig makes you laugh!

I was thinking along the lines of when the gun calls "pull" press the shutter release and keep it going for both shots. Really just out of interest to see what it might do and what I can capture.

I have used it to capture someone Spey casting and that looks quite good when played back at correct speed.

No reason you shouldn't be able to get something....the stuff i mentioned would make it easier, to do with repeatability, and accuracy, but the easiest solution is usually the best.
good luck post if you get something good.
