Morning all, being in the market for a 16-45, I wonder how I can increase my chance of getting a "good copy".
Are there any thoughts about the percentage of "bad ones" that leave the Pentax production line?

Regards

I hadn't heard anyone say they had a bad one.

Darkmunk's got a bad one. Though I believe QC is pretty good on these. I ordered mine when I was in Addis (a friend brought it out for me) and I didn't want a dud - so I did a fair bit of research into this issue before placing the order, and my impression was that bad copies were very rare.

so it looks like the key is not to buy Darkmunks one (lol), otherwise you should be fine!
you don't have to be mad to post here

I think the "bad copy syndrome" is more aimed at the DA* 16-50mm.
Have only ever seen one post about a 16-45mm.

Darkmunk's does indeed seem terrible but he seems to be the only person with a bad one that I know of.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

This is my second copy.... maybe I'm breaking them
They are very plasticky and the moving front element is very vulnerable, so be careful with it.

I think this is why I love the old SMC manual lenses and the fisheye - built properly.

Perhaps actually the way forward is to take DM with you when you go to the shop. Ask him to pick which lens he would buy of those in stock, then buy a different one.
