Hello Gordon and welcome to the forum. I can't comment about the K-7 as I have not used one, but I would be very surprised if you are not pleased with it. From over 40 years of photography I have settled on a K200D and a K20D. Actually, I purchased a second K20D just today, with more bodies I don't have to change lenses as often! Best of luck with your new camera and I shall be watching for your photo posts.
Regards,
Stephen

I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.

Hello there and welcome.
I'll tell you what, with electronics the way they are these days, why not buy TWO k7's and ship one to me here in Australia, so we can test them both under different conditions. If the electronics in yours favours the warmer temps, and "mine" likes the cold and rain, then we'll swap. Sounds good to me.
Look forward to seeing some shots in the Gallery.

Sounds to me like your an experienced photographer, and as such you should already know that reviews cant tell hou the most important thing about a camera, and thats how it feels and handles and how intuitive it is to use.have used Pentax SLRs for over 30 years
If your concerned about quality just browse through the online Pentax Photo Gallery. link

Thanks for that. I'd better just defend the magazine a bit by adding they did still recommend the K-7 & maybe as you said the sample photos they displayed weren't taken in a suitable mode.
They suggested they would look ok after using Photoshop but I must admit I'm not keen on doing it that way but would rather be happy with the image initially.
I like the idea of it being more compact too.
Thanks for the advice.
