Filter system question

Im looking into purchasing a filter system for mainly landscape work to use with my Sigma 10/20 and 17/70 but I would also like to use my old M lenses. Can you recomend a system to me and what the most economical way of building up a filter kit that will suit the lenses I have.

For the Sigma 10-20, you'll need Cokin Z-Pro size (Listed as 100mm by Formatt, whose filters [HiTech] are better). For graduated filters (like ND grads for example) these will unfortunately not be suitable for longer lenses, because the graduation will be spread over too wide an area.

I'd second HiTech filters. I bought mine from Teamwork Photo, and the service was excellent. They also do deals if you buy sets of ND grads and ND filters.

Incidentally, the HiTech holder is in my view worth spending the money on but at the end of the day, the cheaper Kood and Cokin ones still do the job adequately and save lots of £££.

For the Sigma 17-70 you could have got away with the P series filter size (85mm), but I suspect you are pushing your luck too far with the 10-20, so probably have to go for the 100mm filters. You could ask whether the 85mm filters might work in the wide angle filter holder though (specially designed to avoid vignetting with wide angle lenses).

Following the comment above, if your M series lenses are small ones with 49mm filters, I suspect that the 100mm ND Grads may not work terribly well, as they are designed for much larger lenses.

I second the HiTech filters and there holder excellent quality and I bit cheaper than lee filters

but they are not cheap I think the holder is around £50.00
