Someone once said to me that a Fuji Velvia slide at 50ASA would be equivalent to a 50 mega-pixel image from todays digital camera's, having used Velvia in the past, it seems quite possible.

I hate to say this..
but having gone to school shooting a super a and ds2 side by side, (go with constant aperture zooms, so you can compensate for the 1.5x crop, and shoot the same scene on both digital and film to compare results easily)

why don't you look at larger formats?
calumut cadet 4x5, or yashica tlr?

you may find the large format camera more usable in the long run....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

As I am finding, 5x4 is an expensive route to go. The camera is (as ever!) just the start. Big heavy tripod needed, dark slides, hand held spotmeter, car to carry the kit around, assistant to fend off nosy locals... Having said that, it is lovely but perhaps not a good start for trying out film for the first time. Medium format would probably be a good compromise and plenty of TLRs about. The Mamiya C330 even has interchangeable lenses although once again you are pushing the price up (see here for a review).

Cheers, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Oh look, it comes in a tasteful red and gold. Almost as lovely as the new white K2000...

To follow on from womble's earlier comment, the MX is a superb FULLY manual camera.

If you want some auto functions check out an ME super.

Down load the manuals and have a read before committing, but be warned using film gets addictive!

Manuals available here, just search the pentax section for what you fancy.
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

So far noone has mentioned the Z1 & the Z1P virtually the same except the Z1P shoots panaramic be masking off top & bottom of the 35mm film. As far as medium format 120 goes them why look further than the Pentax 645 which has interchangable lenses. I have both the Z1P & the 645 and fast and slow, slide and neg. film tucked away in the fridge and the freezer and occasionally put a roll through. Have a good holiday and start rolling that film. On the camera front ask around I have only ever bought my Miranda MS-3 (a 35mm camera with k mount) and my *ist D the others (2 MX's, Olympus FTL and Ricor KR-10M) have all been by word of mouth I have kodak box brownie that I should play around with (I put a 120 in it a few years ago and haven't touched it yet!)- Slide film I find is far superior on days like to day and shows the winter sun well!.

On another note is it possible to get B&W slide film.

BTW I am 17 and have been messing around with film for quite a few years and only jumped to digital in the summer.
