thats very odd, my K10D only produces names of the form IMGPxxxx. I would suggest there is something wrong with either your camera, memory card or card reader if you are using one.
do the files open correctly?

Mine are _IGP1234 etc. That's for PEF's. The *istD used to have different prefixes for RAW and Jpegs, and also, I think, it depended on what colourspace (Adobe RGB or sRGB) was used. Possibly the same for the 10D?
Could go and try, but it's late and I'd just end up playing with my camera for a while.

Yes they open correctly. I have tried reformat of SD card - file names remain unchanged. Perhaps I should try a camers reset?
What first brought it to my attention was my RAW editor Silkypix. In "old" folders, it displays thumbnails of all images. In the most recent 2 folders, it does not display those images which are .tif. However, I can select tif images in the file display, and they correctly open!
If I use Pentax Photobrowser, all folders display correctly.
Quite odd!

Daniel has the answer.
SRGB color space produces names of IMGP
AdobeRGB has names -IGP
Thanks - just nice to know these little points.

I have various file names, such as IMGP1234, -IGP1234, IGP1234.
There seems no logic to these, and I cannst see at what point the character sequence changes.
Has the charagter string become corrupted (should it always be IMGP), and if so, can it be reset?
