I like the first one, Ems. The sepia toning works very well lending the scene a timeless air. The second one doesn't work for me: it's the out of focus foreground.
Nice place, though.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Hmm.
They are interesting in that they are images from early in your photography hobby. Unfortunately that's where it ends. I find both to be lacking in sharpness and to a lesser extent contrast. Especially the 2nd one, there is contrast in the OOF foreground, but what's going on with the centre of the frame? Is that lens flare or a damaged negative?
Of the two I prefer the first one. The line of trunks, the hedge and the gate make a more interesting shot for me. I don't 'do' sepia, but the sky seems unusually pink in yours? The composition in the 2nd one is good, but there are too many technical problems for me

Ems,
I think they're both very evocative of a time & a place. Each one of us could relate to these images in his own way, but YOU know what these pics mean to YOU.
The technical excellence, or otherwise, of any of them is irelevant to their "meaning".
discuss(!)
Thanks for sharing them with us,
Roger.

Emma,
If nothing else, they show just how far you've come since then.

That was my plan these were taken about 3 and half years ago I think when I first started
