I love my old manual 85mm soft focus.
what odd or special lens do you love?

ds2, 85mm, 1/4000, f2.2, iso 200
image resized for humanitarian reasons, but otherwise unretouched.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

And DAMMIT Pete, I don't want to hear any comments about how the Canon soft focus lens is sharper than the Pentax!!!

Only in JPG...

My special lens is a Sigma

Not that it's optically all that amazing, probably. It's the Sigma A 28-200 F4-5.6, manual focus, and it's special for sentimental reasons.

I've had it for about 20 years, and despite needing repair when I dropped the camera with it on - it ripped the mount out of the lens, but optically it was fine, as was the camera - it's been with me pretty much everywhere I'd taken any pictures until I got the K10D.

Pretty much perfect nick, apart from the zoom is a little looser than when it was new, and ISTR I compared it with a Kiron of the same focal length range, and concluded that the Sigma was slightly better. The test method involved taking my ME Super into the Jessops in Cambridge, taking some shots of a distant wall with each lens, getting the film processed, concluding that the Sigma was slightly sharper, and buying it.

My favourite Pentax lens is my Pentax-FA* 300mm F2.8, not least because I have had to wait / search for so long to track one down - it also means that the last reason I had for hanging on to my EOS system has evaporated (anyone want a Canon 10D and Sigma EX 300mm F2.8?)

Oh, sorry, were you serious?

Dan

P.S. Haven't got any 'odd' lenses, but my special lens would have to be my Sigma 105mm macro. Just can't imagine life without it!

istD, 105mm + extension tube, 1/10s, f/2.8, ISO200
K-3, a macro lens and a DA*300mm...

Don and Dan, your flower images are beautiful - love the visual effect of both.

Sadly I don't have any odd lenses, unless you count my A 24/2.8 which appears to be rather rare - I don't think I've ever seen more than one for sale on Ebay.

Beautiful shots. This is the type of photograpy i want to get into but i have yet to purchase my first macro. I have seen quite a number on E-bay but not quite sure which one is best for a beginer. Should i get a fixed focal length or a zoom. And what is an extension tube and what does it do??? Thanks

my 28-200mm sigma macro is just amazing - I do not use any other lens virtually. The macro results are just beautiful and it is the best buy I ever had!
