The DA40 is full frame, one of the few DA's that are, just without an aperture ring.
Well from what I heard it is fullframe compactible to the point that you don't see image circle, but it vignetes heavily as well as DA70....so fullframe compatibility is questionable. I think Pentax announces only DA60-250, DA200 and DA300 as real fullframe lenses. But I haven't tried any DA lens on film myself, so I may be wrong....
I have never had problems with the DA on film body (MZ5 and 6)' but i may not be the most critical....
